News Release:  GO Box Selected as Semi-finalist in the “One in a Million” Startup Competition

Reusable takeout container service is among 15 contenders from 9 states who will vie for the $10,000 grand prize at the finals held during Global Entrepreneurship Week

GO Box has been chosen as a semifinalist in the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s “One in a Million” pitch competition for startup entrepreneurs.

GO Box is a Portland-based service providing reusable takeout containers to food vendors and customers in Downtown Portland. The first company of its kind anywhere in the United States, GO Box aims to do away with the problem of single-use, disposable takeout boxes by offering a convenient system with durable containers. Since launching, GO Box has saved over 80,000 disposable containers from the landfill, and this year has expanded to the San Francisco Bay Area.

The company is among 15 startups from 9 states ranging from Oregon to Florida. The semifinalists will travel to the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City during Global Entrepreneurship Week for the chance to become one of 5 finalists who will compete in a live-streamed event on November 18.

A panel of independent judges evaluated contestants’ business plans and pitch videos before selecting the 15 semifinalists to compete for a grand prize of $10,000. The second- and third-place winners will receive $5,000 and $1,000, respectively.

The initial field of 377 “One in a Million” contest entries was narrowed to 15 semifinalists based on their businesses’ marketability; long-term potential; management team and the entrepreneurs’ ability to persuasively present their businesses in a few minutes.
